Thinking About Switching Your Residential Phone Service To VoIP?

Thinking About Switching Your Residential Phone Service To VoIP?

When you decide that you may want to change your home or business phone service to a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service there will be quite a few things to be taken into consideration. It need not be a big problem though, if you plan it carefully and thoroughly research the different benefits that each provider may offer.
There are a lot of different service providers and you may even find that your current traditional telephone service provider offers a VoIP service. A lot of the traditional service providers are offering a VoIP service because they see it as the communication of the future and they don't want to get left behind. So, if you are happy with the service that is currently provided by your telephone company, check with them to see if they can offer a VoIP service.

Different VoIP providers will offer different packages, so look for a company that provides the things that you need to carry on your telephone service as before. Such as call waiting, caller ID, fax, voice mail etc., don't settle for anything less than you already have. After all, getting a VoIP service is supposed to be an advance rather than a step backwards.

Check out websites for any reviews and great testimonials for your chosen provider, ask around to see if anyone in your area has had a VoIP service installed and find out if there were any problems. Ask the provider that you have found to give you the contact details of any satisfied customers or failing that, ask to see testimonials from them. If they can't provide testimonials for someone in your locality, move on to the next provider.

Customer service is another important factor to consider when choosing a VoIP supplier. Ask a few questions yourself to see if they are prompt in their replies and are they thorough in their answers to your questions. Although they will be trying harder at this stage in order to get your business, you will get an idea of how they deal with customer queries.

If you are not confident about setting up the equipment yourself, request that your chosen supplier send someone to either install it for you or show you how to do it yourself. Never be 'fobbed off' with an instruction manual if you feel that you need help. If the chosen supplier can't send someone to do the installation, then move on to another supplier that can. Although it is relatively simple to install, not everyone is confident enough to attempt it.

Changing your telephone service to a VoIP service is quite simple and straightforward if you do your research and choose a good service provider that supplies everything that you require from your telephone service.
