Use VoIP to Save on Business and Home Phone

Use VoIP to Save on Business and Home Phone

VoIP is Voice over Internet Protocol and is a telephone service that allows you to make calls using your internet broadband service. The technology converts the voice into a digital signal, transmits the signal over the internet broadband and then transfers the signal back to voice where it can be received as a normal conventional phone call.
The advent of the VoIP system has brought many advantages to the communication in our every day lives. From business users to domestic use, the VoIP service can save you money. As the voice is transmitted via the internet, it is considered to be data, so therefore he VoIP service is exempt from long distance call fees. So the VoIP service providers can offer a better rate that a conventional telephone service provider for long distance and international calls. In some cases the calls that are made from a VoIP service to another VoIP service is free.

A lot of the VoIP service providers offer features such as caller ID, call forwarding, call waiting and conference call free of charge. When using a traditional phone company, these 'extras' cost more. Another great advantage is that some of the VoIP service providers allow you to have a phone number with an area code of your choice. If your company makes a lot of calls to another part of the country, incurring a long distance charge from a traditional service, with a VoIP local number, you can call anther part of the country for a local call charge.

In order to have a VoIP system installed, you will need a fast broadband connection. VoIP is not suitable for use with a dial up connection. The faster your connection - the better the quality of your calls.

The VoIP system will not function if there is a power failure or when your internet connection is out of service. It may be a good idea to keep a cell phone on hand as a substitute, should you need it.

The emergency service calls that you make may not be able to determine you exact location as a traditional phone service would. So, it may be a good idea to inform the service provider with a current address so that, should you need emergency services, they will know exactly where to find you.

To summarize, a VoIP telephone service is a very cost effective way of communicating, both locally, long distance and internationally. The savings that can be made would far outweigh any downside to installing a VoIP system.
